Globefish: european price report

INDEX FOR PRICES: Groundfish; Flatfish; Tuna; Small Pelagics; Cephalopoda; Crustaceans; Non Traditional Species; Freshwater fish; Bivalves; Salmon; Trout; Seabass; Seabream. While many European seafood markets experienced flat demand conditions duringthe first quarter of 2005, pelagic markets have been a notable exception with strong demand from both Asia and Eastern Europe fuelling record high prices. The first quarter has also seen an increase in Alaska pollock dollar prices reflecting a slow start for Russian production and strong demand from Asia for both surimi and h&g product. In other product segments, the European trend has been more towards a weakening of prices at least in euro terms with the recent decline in the dollar rate a key influence.
