Gotthard Base Tunnel in Switzerland - Sinking the Sedrun II Shaft for the longest Tunnel in the World

In Spring 2002 a consortium coordinated by Thyssen Schachtbau GmbH received the contract for sinking the approximately 800 m deep Sedrun II shaft. This was achieved within twelve months by the rodless shaft drilling method. The new shaft winding equipment already went into operation early in February 2004.
