Vale begins phosphate production at Bayovar

VALE HAS initiated production at its Bayóvar phosphate mine in Peru, following a period of trials, the Brazilian mining major reported Monday. The operation will be formally opened August 5. Located in Piura, in the province of Sechura in northern Peru, the mine has an annual production capacity of 3.9 million mt/year of phosphate rock. Total investment in the project, which began in 2007, is estimated at $566 million.
