THE UKRAINIAN fertilizer industry's safety record took a hit this month, after serious chemical leaks in two separate incidents left 13 workers hospitalised. Vladimir Karpy, a spokesman for Stirol - one of Ukraine's largest nitrogen fertilizer producers - said production at the plant's sulphur plant was shut for three days, after a leak of sulphur trioxide gas on 14 June left the 13 workers hospitalised.
