Supramax market remains firm

THE SUPRAMAX market (52,000 dwt) has witnessed increases over the past two weeks, with average earnings moving from $27,630/day to $29,460/day. The latest strength in Supramax vessel earnings has been Atlantic-led, still supported by grain shipments from the east coast of South America to destinations in Asia. Supramax charter rates from the US Gulf to Europe have also maintained their recent rise averaging above $54,600/day, the highest level since September 2008. Meanwhile, Handysize (28,000 dwt) average earnings climbed to above $20,000/day.
