Many sulphuric acid price points remain close to zero worldwide, while chronic oversupply and minimal activity continue to plague the market. Signs of a modest recovery in the fertilizer and chemical sectors have not been enough to raise the mood of sulphuric acid producers and resellers, who point out that a large backlog of product remains, including undelivered volumes from 2008 contracts. Floating storage is still being used in Europe, and the Chilean port of Mejillones remains congested with vessels waiting to unload their cargoes.
