No quick settlement likely in Codelco 2010 contract talks

There remains a minimum $15/mt difference in price ideas between Codelco and its main buyers for 2010 contracts. As Asian smelters are currently in a position to provide tonnes at low prices, Chilean buyers are not under pressure to quickly secure contract volumes from a domestic source. A prolonged negotiation period may therefore be inevitable, as proved to be the case last year for 2009 contracts.
