Brazil reiterates self-sufficiency plans, local industry sceptical

BRAZILIAN MINISTERS for Agriculture and Strategic Affairs recently have reiterated the need for the country to become self-sufficient in fertilizer production during the next decade. Over the past year, the Agriculture minister, Reinhold Stephanes has talked publicly about plans to launch a new Fertilizer Plan to stimulate domestic production, aimed at reducing Brazil's huge dependency on fertilizers imports in five-to-10 years (FW Online, June 27, 2008).
