K+S rumoured to have Compass in its sights

GERMANY'S K+S is speculated to be considering making a bid for US speciality fertilizer and salt producer Compass Minerals, a number of media have reported. According to some media reports, the initial offer could amount to $78 per share or a total of nearly $2.4 billion. Amid the speculation, Compass shares had risen sharply to $60.03 by close on March 4 in New York, although they eased back by 4.26% March 5 to $57.47 as at 16.00hrs Eastern Time. K+S' share price as at 7.15hrs on March 6 was down 9.08% on the previous day's close to ?32.04 ($40.32) in Frankfurt.
