India mulls MRP hikes; GoM for nutrient-based scheme

INDIA'S GOVERNMENT has set up a Group of Ministers (GoM) under the chairmanship of the country's Finance Minister, Pranab Mukherjee to take on the task of overhauling the country's fertilizer subsidy system. In the recent 2009-10 (April 1-March 31) budget, the government announced its intentions to switch to a regime whereby fertilizer subsidy would be paid on nutrients instead of the current product pricing scheme.
