Some interesting statistics that defy widespread reports of cuts in output at Chinese urea units emerged recently. The Chinese National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) identified urea output in June at 5.33 million mt, very close to the 5.5 million mt/month rated capacity in China. The NBS further stated that output from January through June reached 29 million mt, again closely matching the 33 million rated capacity for the first half of the year. The China Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association (CNFA) maintains that actual output was significantly lower, but the data collected and processed by the CNFA are not made available to the public.
