July-December ammonia output marginally lower

US ammonia output during December was 1.12 million st, up 13% from November and 1% more than December 2014, according to the latest producer data from The Fertilizer Institute. The modest gain for the month still left overall US output for 1H (July-December) of the current fertilizer year 2% lower than the prior year period at 6.15 million st. Producers’ inventories at the end of December were 1.12 million st, 5% more than at the end of November, but still trailing the close of December 2013 by 12%. Producers’ shipments of 1.09 million st in December were 19% off of the November movement but 6% more than December 2013. The sharp decline between November and December movement in the current fertilizer year likely was due to the end of direct application work in much of the US as winter blizzards moved through key growing regions.
