UNECE report assesses lower meat consumption

Halving the amount of meat and dairy products consumed in Europe would lead to drastic cuts in greenhouse gas emissions, while freeing up large areas of farmland for other purposes, according to a new report by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). Farmers' groups have been quick to respond however, highlighting how the livestock sector has been working to improve its environmental credentials and defending the value of animal protein as part of a healthy balanced diet.
