Informa expects 2016 global crop acreage to decrease: AGRICULTURE

According to Fertecon’s sister consultancy Informa Economics (IEG), global grain and oilseed acreage is set to fall slightly on last year with combined corn, wheat, rice and soybean acreage reaching 679 million ha compared to 680 million ha in 2015. Global wheat acreage is expected to decrease by 5.5 million ha in 2016 including declines in the CIS, India, and the USA. Meanwhile, IEG expects global soybean acreage to remain roughly flat on 2015’s figure – increasing from 120 million to 120.8 million ha. The largest changes in soybean acreage are expected to take place in the USA and Argentina.
