Weak grain prices causes concern

The harvest is in full swing with both winter barley and oil seed rape more or less done by now. Yields of barley are reported at 7.5-8.0 t / ha while rape crops are coming in at 3.7-4.0 t / ha. Grain prices are weak and this is causing concern at farm level and will undoubtedly affect cash flow on many grain farms in the months ahead. Quality of grain is good, however, and the lower than average drying costs, due to ongoing good weather conditions, are giving some relief to hard pressed grain growers.
