PotashCorp posts another record first quarter

POTASHCORP ON April 28 reported record first-quarterearnings of $732 million, 71% above the $444 millionearned in the same period last year, with the companycrediting higher income from its potash, phosphate andnitrogen segments."Strong demand and improved prices for all threenutrients resulted in record first quarter gross margin of$1.1 billion, significantly above the $729 million earned inlast year's first quarter," PotashCorp said.The company reported that it also benefitted fromsignificant returns from its international investments. ArabPotash Company in Jordan and Chile's SQM added $51million to PotashCorp's operating income in the quarter,nearly double the $26 million contribution for the sameperiod last year.
