Arab Gulf producers have started 2008 in bullish mood - the monthly, quarterly and six-monthly prices have more than doubled compared to a year ago. Strong Chinese demand this year will push the overall sulphur imports in China to rise by 5% or more over 2007 estimates of around 9.5m tonnes. Spot availabilities from the Middle East have evaporated this year as AG producers committed some 1.4m in contract business to North Africa.
