PRICES OF PETROCHEMICAL RAW MATERIALS AND SYNTHETIC FIBRES AND YARN IN THE SECOND HALF OF 2004

The second half of 2004 was characterized by an unprecedented jump in the price of crude oil:from 35.15/barrel in June [1] to 43.90 in January of 2005.It was predicted that such important changes in the price of crude would inevitably affect the cost of products made from it-acrylonitrile(AN),caprolactam(CL),p-xylene(PX),tetraphthalic acid(TPA),and monoethylene glycol(MG),the initial raw materials for manufacture of polyacrylonitrile(PAN),polyamide(PA),and polyester(PES)fibres and yarns,and commercial polymers as well-polypropylene(PP)and poly(ethylene terephthalate)(PET),which have their own areas of application in addition to the fibre line(Spunbond,plastic bottles,films,and many other products).
