Fishmeal sparing in aquafeed is often limited by the presence of anti-nutritional factors found in plant-derived feedstuffs. Fermentation may be a cost-effective means of addressing such factors and improving utilization of plant ingredients in feed.The authors compared the performance of white seabass and California yellowtails fed diets containing graded levels of traditional or fermented soybean meal to that of fish fed diets based on fishmeal or other high-value proteins. Using both traditionaland fermented soybean meals decreased dietary fishmeal levels to some extent.
