摘要

The new Food Safety Modernization Act dramatically expands the enforcement power of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration over buyers and sellers of seafood, which it considers a high-risk food. FDA must multiply its facility inspections. Refused entries will be reported. Seafood importers must verity the compliance of their foreign suppliers. FDA must establish a voluntary Qualified Importer Program to provide expedited importation of food, as well as a system of accreditation to support it. The 234-page Food Safety Modernization Act, which United States President Barack Obama signed in January, dramatically expands the enforcement power of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) over seafood buyers and sellers. As the FDA commissioner explained, this new law "makes everyone responsible and accountable at each step in today's global food supply chain."
