Seasonal Shift Reverses U.S. Shrimp Import Decline, Large Shrimp Supply Tight

United States imports of shrimp for June were higher after months of decline. The market was divided by count size, with limited offerings of larger shrimp. Buyers are working through inventories of smaller shrimp. During July, smaller whole salmon saw a weak market, but were full steady in August. Larger whole fish on the West Coast held steady. The salmon fillet market was weak in June. The tilapia market continues to experience overall growth in imports, led by frozen fillets. Imports of frozen whole fish and fresh fillets have remained virtually flat when compared to the January-June period of last year.
