EPA releases dioxin risk assessment

THE long-awaited Environmental Protection Agency assessment of the non-cancer risks of dioxin was released Feb. 17 and concluded that, in general, current exposure to dioxins over a person's lifetime does not pose a significant health risk.Dioxins are toxic chemicals that naturally exist in the environment and can be released into the environment through forest fires, backyard burning of trash, certain industrial activities and residue from past commercial burning of waste, according to EPA.
