Functional diets that include bio-active ingredients have been shown to increase disease resistance and growth in fish. Among the dietary options is the use of seaweed, which offers both essential nutrients and biologically active metabolites. In a study, Adantic salmon fed diets with red seaweed had significandy higher levels of antiviral activity against the infectious salmon anemia virus than fish fed a control diet. Growth performance improved or was not negatively affected by the inclusion of seaweed in the diets.
