India Now Top Supplier For U.S. Shrimp Imports

December 2013 saw lower shrimp imports, limited supplies and shifting sizing. India is now the leading supplier to the United States, followed by Thailand. Shortages due to disease will become more apparent in 2014. Total YTD salmon imports ended 2013with a 2% increase. Fresh whole fish imports closed 2013 down 14%. Fresh fillets finished 11% higher YTD. U.S. imports of frozen whole tilapia finally advanced in 2013. Colombia and other countries are covering Ecuador's lower fillet volumes. Importersare holding frozen fillets at a high cost. U.S. imports of channel catfish doubled from 2012 to 2013, and Pangasius imports reached a record high in December 2013. Both the catfish and Pangasius markets remained steady.
