摘要

Kondinin Group research has found that the majority of members producing wool and sheep meat do not refer to Australian Sheep Breeding Values (ASBVs) when selecting rams according to the latest National Agricultural Survey (NAS) figures. But producersare aware of the influence genetics can have in achieving breeding programme performance goals with two in three indicating they select rams on this basis. This Research Report oos at the tools available to wool and sheep meat producers to improve flock performance through objective measurement, defined breeding objectives, goal setting and researched selection of breeding stock. In case there was any doubt around the value in quantifying desirable traits, we showcase the demonstrated success with which three producers from across Australia are making the numbers work to improve the efficiency and productivity of their sheep enterprises.
