Global money pouring into Australian farmland has been the stuff of scaremongering headlines, but is that the real problem confronting our agricultural industries as the demand for food and food security begins to soar. Alot of people are missing thepoint. Yes, overseas investors are snapping up prodigious slices of prime Australian farmland. But when the rhetoric settles, the percentage of our great land mass at risk is quite small. The real risk, however, seems to keep sliding under the radar. Andthat is the loss of the agricultural money machines — not farms but the processors, marketers and retailers.
