JBS recognizedfor water use plan

JBS USA Beef's plants in Greeley, Colo., and Cactus, Texas, both lie in semi-arid regions of the U.S. that receive minimal precipitation annually. With water being expensive and in short supply, the goal of using water more efficiently is a top priority. According to JBS, not only is it important to preserve water supplies for future generations but also to save money and protect the environment. With this in mind, the company set an aggressive goal of 650 gal. of water use per head of cattle for 2011 in both the Cactus and Greeley facilities. Both plants accepted the challenge and vigorously pursued plans to meet or exceed expectations. Although both facilities implemented water reduction plans in 2010, JBS said many employees were not engaged, andthe rules were not rigorously enforced.
