Is certification a special product? I tend to think so. I am not even comfortable with the idea of the mass marketing of certification, as though it were a manufactured product that people need to use several times a day. Certification deserves to be handled with kid gloves. If I had to compare it to something, I would take services of the kind offered by organizations in the education sector. What would happen, for example, if a university lost its bearings and adopted assembly-line factory practices?
