Buying and selling second-hand machinery and equipment can be fraught with danger. Detaileddocumentation is the key to lowering the liability risk when selling second-hand equipment. Farm plant and machinery that is sold needs to be safe, suitable for the required work and maintained in a safe condition. Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation does not distinguish between new and used or second-hand plant. Nor does it distinguish between a supplier who is a machinery dealer and a farmer who sells privately or at an auction clearance sale.
