An ISO 9000 perspective on anti-G8 riots

When I hear someone spouting about "customer satisfaction", I reach for my tear gas launcher… at least, I would if I had the unhappy lot of being a policeman in Geneva or Lausanne. For a few days at the beginning of June, these normally placid Swiss cities rang to the din of shattering shop windows, shouted insults vs. mega-phoned orders, showers of stones vs. volleys of rubber bullets, and marching, charging feet. It all set my mind a-wondering. And this is what it wondered... an ISO 9000 perspective on the riots... When the G8 summit in neighbouring Evian, France, provoked demonstrations of up to 100 000 people who were firmly anti-globalization and just as firmly peaceful in expressing it, a violent fringe nevertheless went on the rampage in downtown Geneva and Lausanne. The rioters did their best to provoke the police into the spiral of extremist violence-police repression that can suck in the peaceful protestor or innocent bystander and lead to a generalized confrontation.
