Smaller sheep studs are feeling the pinch as the industry profile changes and the pressure mounts for market share. In Victoria's Western District one stud with a proud history is making adjustments to secure its future. After almost 45 years in the stud sheep industry, Kerrsville principal Robert Plush believes the industry is at a crossroads. Based southwest of Balmoral in the heart of what was once the wool-rich Western District of Victoria, Robert said the biggest issues now facing seedstockproducers were twofold. He said the most obvious was the move out of sheep, accelerated during the protracted drought which plagued the start of the new century.
