摘要

THERE'S both bad news and good news on the food front: The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) announced that almost everyone still consumes far too much sodium, but Americans may be reducing their consumption of trans-fatty acids. The first is bad for heart health, but the second is good for heart health, according to CDC. In a recent "Vital Signs" report, CDC said the average person consumes 3,300 mg of sodium every day — not counting salt he or she adds during food preparationin the kitchen or sitting at the table — which exceeds both the U.S. recommended daily allowance of 2,300 mg as well as the recommendation of 1,500 mg for people 51 years of age and older, for people with diabetes and high blood pressure and for African Americans.
