Bare breech alternative promising

As the Australian wool industry's self-imposed 2010 deadline for the phasing out of mulesing looms, scientists are investigating alternatives in a bid to come up with a permanent, cost-effective method to help prevent breech strike in Merino sheep. One possibility involves selectively breeding Merinos for resistance to breech strike. CSIRO researchers are evaluating the effectiveness of this option and the preliminary results are promising.
