Windmill safety: not a breeze

Windmill maintenance has always been dangerous. With occupational health and safety regulations tightening, farmers need to be aware of safety risks and their obligations. Contractors now refuse to work on windmills that are unsafe. One contractor claims that 90 per cent of the windmills he sees would not meet safety standards; so he often has to fix the frame and platform before starting work on the windmill head itself.
