摘要

After Hurricane Katrina befell the United States seafood industry and Gulf Coast residents nearly one year ago, the Gulf of Mexico shellfish community continues fighting for its livelihood. It is a long and arduous process to rebuild devastated oysterbeds, shellfish farms, and the infrastructure that supports this way of life. But at the same time, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is currently in the process of making a national decision that could endanger the economic and environmental recovery in the Gulf Coast region and set a devastating precedent for the shellfish-farming community nationwide.
