Feed Trays Or Broadcasting? Broadcast Method Reduces Organic Matter In Shrimp Ponds

At higher stocking densities, the application of all feed via feed trays often results in feed being dropped outside and/or underneath the trays. Shrimp that eat the feed under the trays can cause depressions in the sediment, where organic sediment accumulates. If these areas are not evacuated during pond draining, bacterial contamination can occur. To solve this problem, it is recommended to broadcast most of the feed with only 3 to 6% on a few trays to evaluate consumption.
