Pacific Oyster Selective Breeding In Australia Economics, Computing Combine To Deliver Gains

A partnership between CSIRO Food Futures Flagship and Australian Seafood Industries has significantly improved the selective breeding of Australian Pacific oysters. The breeding program can now select oysters with the best economic mix of traits, better identify these oysters using new data analyses and manage selections to control inbreeding. It is estimated the program will be able to reduce the cost of oyster production by 40% over 10 years.
