USDA releases projections to 2022

AGRICULTURAL production is poised for a recovery in 2013 after suffering from the 2012 drought, while meat and poultry production is projected to fall in 2013 before increasing in the longer term, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's long-term projections released Feb. 11. The projections for production until 2022 assume global economic growth as increases in world population continue to moderate. Growth in most developing countries will exceed growth in the rest of the world. The reportnotes that population gains in developingcountries — along with higher incomes, increased urbanization and expansion of the middle class — are particularly important for growth in global food demand.
