Benchmarking is proving to be a valuable tool in keeping farm businesses on track for better production performance and profitability. Western Australian producers Digby and Nikki Stretch have spent the past 17 years working toward benchmarks and arereaping the rewards of higher profits with lower costs. Long-term benchmarking has improved the management focus of Digby and Nikki Stretch, Kojonup, Western Australia, helping lift the profitability of their Merino sheep and cropping enterprises. Digbyand Nikki have been benchmarking their farm business performance for the past 17 years through their membership of the Kojonup Sheep Production Group. During this time they have increased stocking rates from eight dry sheep equivalents (DSE) per hectareup to 10-12DSE, boosting wool cut per hectare significantly while maintaining production costs.
