CPI buoyed by National Starch

FOURTH-quarter earnings for Corn Products International (CPI) were boosted significantly from its recent acquisition of specialty ingredients marketer National Starch, and one analyst called it a "game-changing event" for CPI. CPI's 2010 fourth quarter included charges of 38 cents per share resulting from acquisition, integration and other costs related to National Starch. Excluding these items, adjusted earnings per share in the quarter rose 42%. For the full year, earnings were up 307% to $2.20 per share from 54 cents per share in 2009. For both the quarter and full year, National Starch operations had an estimated positive earnings impact of 23 cents per share.
