Alliance aims to smooth food safety trade barriers

FARMERS may pay checkoff fees on more than one commodity produced on their farms, but there is one common goal: create new markets and maintain those that already exist. About five years ago, a group of farmers, each of whom paid into several checkoff programs, saw a need for better coordination of international trade development. It was spurred by the realization that new trade barriers were emerging on food safety rules.
