Avoiding serious machinery damage or a fire could be as simple as a quick check using an infrared thermometer. With one-in-four harvester owners suffering a fire, the need for vigilance is obvious. According to a recent Kondinin Group harvester firessurvey, 22 per cent of fires started from bearing failure, so regular temperature checks could help spot a disaster in the making. But farmers need not spend hundreds of dollars on an infrared thermometer, with units from as little as 50 dollar suitablefor most tasks.
