This is farming's moment. There has never been a more exciting time to farm and never more public goodwill for you to succeed. Few professions can rival the effect farmers have on our landscape, environment and society. As custodians of the largest land area in Britain, farmers are expected to maintain and improve all those things above and beyond the day job of delivering high-quality food. It is a difficult and demanding role to play, so it is little wonder that until recently so few outsiders have wanted to enter. Farming is hard work and long hours, requiring a multitude of practical, technical, business and people skills to reap the rewards.
