Dairy farmers should be on the lookout for summer mastitis and regularly monitoring stock for symptoms, as predicted warm weather will see a rise in fly numbers. With non-lactating animals most affected, including in-calf and maiden heifers, dry cowsand even bulls, farmers should be checking stock at least twice a day to spot symptoms, says Penrith vet, Chris Swift.
