Farmers and contractors spent a record amount on new machinery in 2008. As any behavioural psychologist worth his salt will tell you, there are three types of farmer when it comes to making new machinery purchasing decisions. There are those that boast a carefully crafted investment plan, with flashy spreadsheets and lots of dates and numbers. Then there are those that would love to buy new but simply don't have the size of business to justify it. So they stick to second-hand and dream of selling a bit of land for development.
