Most tractor drivers could operate a 6M in their sleep - it's got typical Deere controls and a good performing engine but visibility is poor and the standard spec is limitedDeere's 6M is a combination of the 6R's shape and the older 6030's cab. Inside the small six-poster things are well tacked together and nicely finished, and there can be few people in farming that aren't familiar with the basic John Deere controls. The layout is standard JD fare (minus the CommandCenter console) and, bar the linkage controls, everything is mechanical. Two dash-mounted dials display drive and engine speed, while a central digi-screen shows adjustable functions including linkage lift speed, forward/reverse ratio andpto soft start. Transmission settings can also be tweaked here, but we struggled to spot the difference with softshift engaged. From the seat the long, high nose of the M-series contributes to the worst forward visibility of the tractors tested and it's not much better looking at the link amis.
