Calf health boost as farms follow expert advice to tackle pneumonia

Three farms have slashed the number of pneumonia cases they are seeing by modifying the design of their existing buildings and focusing their attention on colostrum management. Pneumonia costs the farming industry E80m a year and animals that have suffered from the disease produce less milk in both the first and second lactation. The farms were visited by a team of experts on pneumonia in autumn 2012 to troubleshoot their calf-rearing systems.
