Bayer to introduce new potato seed treatment for 2013

Bayer CropScience will make its new SDHI potato seed treatment commercially available for the 2013 planting, subject to regulatory approval. Under the product name Ernesto, the penflufen-based product will be available in a red liquid formation for roller table applications and a white powder for on-planter applications. "So few products are being approved in potatoes, penflufen is very welcome," said Stuart Wale from SAC. "The research we have done with the product shows more consistent results against rhizoctonia than other options commercially available. However, it also shows control against a broader range of pathogens," explained Dr Wale. Penflufen could provide equal if not better control of rhizoctonia at 20g of active ingredient per tonne,compared with 250g/t with Mon-ceren (pencycuran).
