Light land wheat yields are sure to come under the spotlight this harvest. Finding the right variety and agronomy to increase light land wheat yields is likely to be on many growers' wish list after this season, where the dry spring could have a particularly harsh effect. So it looks like good timing for Sentry Farms, Agrovista and KWS to begin a trials collaboration with the aim of doing just that. "About 30% of the total Sentry Farms' managed area of 20,000ha is on fairly light land, or lower yieldpotential sites," explains the firm's John Barrett. "We wanted to find the right varieties and the correct agronomic package to increase yields, which can be less than 8t/ha on those fields."
