Subsoiler seeder pioneer revisited

Ten years ago, Crops featured a pioneering subsoiler seeder, brainchild of up-and-coming farm manager Alastair Brooks. Mfarmer's ingenuity honing the hapless piece of metal into a shape, form or depth better suited to the task in hand. But when Alastair Brooks, 2010 Farmers Weekly Farm Manager of the Year, wanted to slice up a brand new Cousins subsoiler, Waddesdon Estate fitter Phil Clack thought at first he'd gone a step too far. "You should never tinker with a new bit ofkit." This wasn't the firsttime for Mr Brooks, however, and he had a specific purpose in mind. Ten years ago, on a heavy clay farm in Northamptonshire, he pioneered one of the early subsoiler seeders, marrying a Simba Flowking and an Opico seeder box.
